Hi all - I have a 19 year old van which I enjoy, am always working on and have it regularly serviced. The guy who services the van and who has worked in the trade for many years has recommended that I should have all rails taken off, new mastic put into screw holes and then new screws to resecure the rails back to the van. He has told me that this is essential maintenance to prevent water getting into these areas, this being one of the main reasons why caravans start to leak and all the problems that goes with damp. He said that manufacturers recommend this work is done every 10 years, so that being the case mine is well overdue.
The work is expensive but if it has to be done it will be. I have never seen any article in caravan mags about this topic and wondered if anyone out there has any helpful comment ot make. Selling my van and getting a newer one is not an issue - I will be keeping it for a long time to come.
I have no reason to distrust the guy who services the van - seems a very genuine person - has anyone got any useful comments please? Thanks in advance
