Hi all just getting all my new wallboards & i need to cut them to fit but unsure what to use? Any help would be great!
Also im fitting new polystyrene to the alloy shell dose this need to be glued down as the old polystyrene i removed was not?
The van is a 1981 swift danette 5berth that had more water in it than the local swimming pool! So iv rebuilt everything in it over the last 4months iv got lots of pics so il try & get a few on here.
Thanks
Steve

I usually find it best to cut wall board or thin ply with a stanley knife - less chance of splintering, cleaner edge etc. using a decent panel saw to cut standard 4mm ply and above - rarely a jigsaw or circular saw unless I'm routering a straight edge on it to clean it up.

Earlier vans were built using a non-bonded system and even with the bonding of the sides the ends were usually not bonded so it would not be necessary to glue the polystyrene in this case

I agree that a Stanley knife will cut thin ply, but I've sliced my fingers too many times with them. I suspect I get impatient and try to cut too much at once. Lots of low pressure cuts is safer than fewer high pressure ones.

I usually use an electric scroll saw - the problem is you are limted by the size of the ply panel (whether it will fit into the depth of the saw body.)

For panels that are too big I've used a hand held jig saw and cut close to the line I want, but not right up to it. Then I take the excess out with a flap wheel - it eats away at the ply like a hot knife through butter and leaves a perfect finish.

I score the board well with a Stanley knife. Then use a panel saw to cut so that you leave the half scored on the side that use are using. Best this is to practice a bit till you have masted it. If you do not feel able to do this then take your time a score but do not put to much pressure on or the blade might break and you could cut your self and or damage the board.

If you decide to bond the polystyrene to the walls - make sure its a solvent free adhesive - the poly will disolve otherwise
