Hi, can anyone help with this problem we have, Our first caravan its a abi daystar, and has a carver water heater which works fine both on gas and elec, but we can't work out why whenever we turn taps on there is water pouring out of the overflow pipe. There is a red hose out of top right of heater which then has a push fit T piece, one side goes to water pipes to the taps and the other side has a pipe connected which just goes out of the floor of the caravan, (this also has a non return valve inside, altho cant see what that would do)... we tried clamping this pipe off and everything works fine, but it must be there for a reason so am a bit worried....incidentley it all looks like the original pipework....thanks Lesley
Water tanks are supposed to have an overflow just in case. Same as at home

Hi Lesley, and welcome to the forum, as arc system says "Only thing it might be useful for, is to allow air 'in' to assist draining and therefore similar to the current Truma heater?" , only thing i can think of is that the non return valve is stuck in the open position and allowing the water out instead of pushing it closed, just ordinary non return valve, put in wrong way round from the normal, so it acts like a vent. hope this helps, keep us posted.

Hi, thanks for reply, what a great site!... John we actually thought the non return valve may be problem so we took it all apart. as they were all push fit we had to replace all the pipes and fitting. we put it back together and its exactley the same. So now we tried putting the old the non retun valve inside the overflow pipe the "wrong" way round, this has solved the problem, but then there doesn't seem any reason to have overflow if its blocked?
Hi Gary, sorry missed your reply when I read John's......we seemed to feel it wasn't really needed, but it was a worry to block off, just in case it was needed for pressure release or something
Hi lesanles, As Gary says no reason for it to be there as not part of the original system, It must be an additional thing, to aid the drain down of water system as it may be very slow in draining, it will not be an overflow pipe.

Surely, on a pressure system, the pump would keep operating and push in water, allowing it to continue running if an overflow pipe was fitted; until the aquaroll emptied and burnt out the pump!
I should have been clearer, not required so get rid of it altogether
I've often give the same advice regarding the Truma one, which is meant to be there!, that can be more trouble than it's worth and opening the hot taps while draining achieves much the same result.
Hi all. I have an Abi Ace Orbit, which I have used once this year. I am about to go out again and checking over the water system, I have had the hot overflow running as described here. This was OK last time out. Apart from messing about with it, any ideas. (Life was so much simpler under canvas!!!)
