I'm going to begin the rebuild on my Topaz over the next few weeks and after checking Wizards site [loads of useful info] I found "Alan Parkers" pages regarding their rebuild and now have a few questions on the rebuild process as my E-mail to Alan Parker bounced:

1: Does the Polystyrene insulation sit on or in the frame work or between the outer shell and frame work ? Even though there is mention of Polystyrene sheets there is no follow up on where it's used.

2: Is there a standard thickness of Polystyrene or does it vary from van to van?

3: Can modern Alloy coated insulation be used instead or would that cause damp?

4: Where do I buy wood hardener from B&Q don't stock it or is it now called "Wood Preservative"?

Thanks Charlotte oh you can bet I will ask loads more questions as the rebuild happens once the two areas on the walls are fixed it's time to attack the floor for some reason theres another floor been fitted why who knows.

Replace old rotten wood with new wood which should be bonded to the caravan outer skin, The insulation is then also bonded to the outer skin and new wood, where possible.

New inner boarding is them glued & fixed to the new woodwork and insulation.

Depending how old your van is it may have polystyrene or even rockwool type insulation.

Topaz have been made for many years.

Excellent thanks. Rockwool doesn't sound very nice.  I think I have a later CI Eccles Topaz because the door opens towards the rear of the van and not towards the front and it has the raise up bunk making a 4 berth at the rear during research I have only found the earlier 2 berth Topaz's

Hiya, we have just done exactly the same to our van! (see our post "damp, damp & more damp)  We bought polystyrene from Wickes along with our wood hardener - think it was called "wet rot" hardener - works a treat. Hubby stripped the walls bare, pva glue coated the allu walls, replaced wood frame, stuck on the poly in between frame then stuck on the 3mm ply wood and then wallpapered with fablon.
