I bought a used eldiss gulfstream from a dealer in Yorkshire in April which was then towed to the Isle of Wight where it is stored.  When we got there we (dual carriageway all the way-no speed bumps) we discovered that the electric heater did not work and upon inspection found it to be broken in half.  The gas heating is OK as are the slide and the fans.  The dealer does not want to know as we cant take it back to him.  I have tried Truma and various breakers but no luck. Might be prepared to buy a whole new (second hand) fanmaster but would obviously prefer to get hold of a replacement element.  Any ideas?

Are you saying the two 1kw electric elements are both broken in half??

I've recently supplied a dealer with a pair of elements after it would appear both burst over winter, not though come across snapped ones before?

You say the slide switch works, can you then, hear the element relays switching on and off? if so, is the mains 'kettle' plug fully into it's socket? if so is the socket and plug ok and not burnt?
Is the mains isolation switch on? is the 10A fuse ok? also possible the fuse holder is faulty even though the fuse is ok!

Anyhow, I do have at least one pair of elements in stock if indeed that's what's required?

Thanks Gary.  I have had it inspected by a reputable repair chap on the IOW who took the fire out and found the element (I thought there was only one) had broken in half.  There was evidence from the service record that the fire had been taken out in 2008 so the consensus appears to be that it was broken then but everybody kept quite about it.  I suspect that the dealer tried the switches and found them to be woprking but he did not bother to check if there was was actually any heat coming through.

Anyway what I will do is to email the IOW chap and give him a resume of your comments.  Will get back to you when I have heard from him.  Thanks again

Mike

Broken in half might start to make sense if someone thinks it has one element while infact there are two?!
Least if the statement is 'one is broken', then as their are without doubt two, the other may well be ok??

Anyway I do know one mobile guy on the IOW already?

PS, it was brand new in 98?
