Are you sure it's the EHU?  On my last van I used to get interference from a flourescent light.  Took me ages to find out what was causing it.  I think you can get suppressors but I never got around to sorting it as I changed vans soon after I found the cause of the problem.

My first guess is the charger is out of control and pumping out over 15 volts! this certainly interferes with radio reception but is also wrecking your battery!!

Voltage reading should be no more than 13.8v, if you have a coloured volt meter in the van, then this should read 1/3 up the green.

If it's hard over to the right then it's 15v+

Hi Adge. What sort of charger are you using? The normal car battery charger will not produce true DC voltages. what it does supply is simply a rectified AC at around 13.8 volts. This means the voltage it gives out swings from 0 volts to 13.8 volts 50 times a second (or 100 times a second for a full wave rectifier) which leads to the buzzing. In old fashioned terms, it needs some smoothing on the power link to the radio and TV. Many years ago I could have given you a simple circuit to do this. As far as I can remember, you simply need a large value electrolytic capacitor across the feed and this should remove most of the hum.
I'm sure there must be some electronics experts on here who can help more.

Pete

I find the same if we are abroad. I like to listen to radio 5 live on med wave but can't get it if the charger is switched on. Too much interference. Turn it off and reception is fine. We don't keep the charger permanently on. Just switch it on for an hour or so each day.

The PMS1, infact all PMS units, are very stable 'switch mode power supplies,' not simple 'transformers' as Pete described.

So the source of the humming, given it's not over volting, might be the battery on it's way out and overloading it, in general they are silent

Switch the 'car/van' switch to the middle position, this disconnects the battery and leaves the charger to supply the van on it's own, see if the noise stops then?

Not sure other than that, could be a lot of things?

Switch mode power supplies switch the mains at a high frequency, something above 30kHz. The unit is 15+years old and may well be on its way out, with components starting to fail and almost certainly this could cause radio interference. If this is the case the only solution is a new charger.

You could go to Maplin and buy a ceramic ring filter then wind the power wire around it to form a filter
