In the process of fixing my caravan, today I replaced the broken water pump, hot water fills the tank and comes to pressure fine, however cold does not work?? in the shower it does?
Also the pump is constantley running but I assume this is down to no pressure at the cold tap?
Thanks I will have to give that a go, another thing, I have what looks like a filter below the main water intake, it has a blue hose going from it???
What is that and if its a filter how does it work if only one pipe goes from it as there does not seem to be an input on the otherside, just the blue one that goes to the carver heater?
Ok so I sourced the problem, it appears the cold water filter had disintegrated and blocked the cold water pipe, I cleared this and now water runs, the only problem its constant, tap on or off it makes no difference, both bathroom and kitchen taps just run(pump constantly running).
My questions are, are caravan taps like house hold ones? i.e if turned off should water be able to pass through them? Do they have a pressure valve inside or does it just rely on the micro switch being turned off?
I'm concerned that both bathroom and kitchen cold water constantly run, are the taps broken or is it just a micro switch somewhere? And if I fix the micro switch surely when I want cold from either tap it will also pour out of the other?
Ok, so the water is still running but it wont stop, the pump just runs and runs, Ive cut all the wires to the microswitches(kitchen, bathroom and shower) still no joy the pump carries on running, I wired it in the opposite way and that made no difference??
The wires dont seem to go anywhere else, is there anyone who could shed some light on this for me as its slightly annoying as we will just have to turn the switch on when we want water???
Am I right in thinking the way it works is when the taps are off the circuit is broken? and when you turn a tap on it completes the circuit and makes the pump go?
Think pump will run until it reaches pressure. Possibly bits of disintegrated cartridge have got into system and stopping taps from sealing in the off position, hence the system will never get pressurised. might mean stripping tap to check for debris inside
I have an idea what to do next(after a little more research) Got a replacement filter on the way, a replacement drain plug(accidentally broke it when trying to remove).
Once fitted blast the system through with mains to clear any debris, remove the non-return valve off the water heater(currently not working as if I turn the pump off water gushes back out). Then hopefully the system can get to pressure??
After some more thinking and investigating, I believe my whole system runs off microswitches(cant find any pressure switches, 1985 abi dawnstar) so if the pump is still running, it means that something is completing the circuit somewhere?
Would it just be easier to install a pressure switch? Is it hard to retrofit one?
Also i'm not sure if my 2 taps are faulty as when the pump continually runs water still dribbles out of the taps, but not the shower? Are they supposed to be able to hold the pressure behind them (they are nova taps)?
