About to replace an MPK rooflight with a Mini Heki.

I decided to use W4 19mm tape 'cos it looks less messy than Sikaflex or equivilent.

The Heki has a groove around it's roof side for sealant to sit in. This groove though is about 3-4 mm deep. Deeper in fact than the thickness of the W4 tape.

Is it going to be OK to use a double thickness of tape. Using only one layer leaves the way open potentially for it to not seal properly or is this not normally an issue?

Should i just bite the bullet and use the mastic gun and Soudal Fix All? I was hoping to avoid that as the rooflight is slap bang in the middle of the roof and clean up could be awkward with my short arms (according to the missus...)

Usually the sealant tape should come with the rooflight. I have had this problem with my Swift lower rail, W4 is just not thick enough, However I did double up and it was fine, just a messy job joining the two together. A little tip though is to put the W4 in the fridge over night, that way it wont be too tacky for you to join the two together.

I'd use sikaflex if you want the rooflight to stay there when travelling

W4 is just a sealant - Sikaflex is a adhesive sealant

i swapped to a mini heki 2 years back i doubled up the mastic tape.the way a heki is fitted there aint a cat in hells chance of it blowing away.

i would agree its an adhesive as a sealant it aint brilliant.i used it on my daughters awning rail. cleaned thoroughly with white spirit then de greased,still leaked.a lot of bonded windscreens use sikaflex and a lot leak.
