12months ago my husband and I bought our first touring caravan  and are having a wonderful time in it - Cheddar, Exeter, Scotland and Devizes to mention just a few places.  However we have had 3 plughole fittings break during this short time.  The caravan is a Swift and the plug hole fitting is metal with a long screw attached to a black plastic disc type fitting under the sinkwhere it attaches to the pipe.  This black plastic keeps crumbling away.  Luckily so far I have noticed it before I have put water down the sink so have managed to avoid water damage.

Have we just been unfortunate or does anyone know of a history of this problem?.

That sounds really odd. We had a Swift Group van for 10 years and had no problems, our present one is 2 1/2 years, again no problems.

What do you put down the plughole? Some of the caravan plastics cannot stand household cleaners like bleach, and mouthwash can damage some basins.

Is this a kitchen or bathroom basin?

You could try posting on Swift's own forum SwiftTalk, there are several Swift guys that give help on there.

Thanks for your reply Jennifer.  The first thing that came to mind was what had I been putting down the sink but I can assure you that nothing harmful has been put down - no bleach or anything like that.  Only washing up liquid in the water.   It is the kitchen sink by the way.

I will try Swift forum thanks.

Not sure if it's the same problem but we have an Elddis van and have similar problems with our bathroom sink/plughole ie the point where the hose is sealed at the junction of the plughole isnt watertight. We don't use strong chemicals...we are really struggling to get this resealed as the pipe access is either via the adjoining wardrobe underfloor (pushing it up "blind" or by trying to pull it upwards via the plughole and resealing....trying this approach.

This probably sounds stupid but try replacing with a grey one rather than a black
