Hi there,

When I broke down the other day the RAC towed my caravan (Adria Optima 400b) home and managed to crack the front panel and the door to the box that contains the gas bottle.

I have been told that these parts are no longer available so does anyone have any suggestions? Breakers yards that have such a model? Anything? !!!

Many thanks,

Ellie

Oki dokes, finally an update to you helpful folk.

Caravan Breakers don't have the part at the mo as they have no similar caravan but will let me know as and when.

Caravan Panels can't help at all.

Brookside caravans have a similar caravan but someone else has already said they want those parts. If they don't then I get second refusal.

Fingers crossed.

Will let you know more as and when.

If you have any more ideas then they would be most welcome.

Cheers,

Ellie

Shouldn't the RAC be paying for this/sorting it out?

If they damaged your van in transit then they are at fault?

I had a tyre blow out and was recovered by the AA. When they took my van off the flat loader they grounded my rear RH steady, and bent it... it's never been the same since. I wasn't aware they had did this at the time, and signed the paperwork to say all was well. Wish I had thouroughly checked!

Its just my opinion but I don't have much confidence that they have much clue as to how to handle a caravan?

Same thing with etyres....bloke came out to fit new ones and was jacking the caravan up without lifting the steadies!!!!!!!!!!! URGHHHHHHHHHHH

I had to go out and intervene before real damage was done.

You are so right. RAC are responsible but they suggested I source repairers as they are not familiar with this kind of work. I found a chap in my local area who can do a repair job. The only trouble was that he said that the work would not replicate the mottled look of the caravan and would instead be smooth. I therefore thought it would be best to source replacement parts if possible. I don't think that there's any way the RAC would go to all this trouble. They would simply patch up damage even if it leaves caravan looking not quite the same. It seems that i may have to go down this route anyhow.

Your horror stories are quite scarey and I think it's best they are out of the loop as much as possible incase more botch jobs are made. They can just cough up when jobs done. So onwards and upwards.

Thanks for sharing your story

I'm wondering....as I've just purchased an Adria Optima 400b, would it be a good idea to line the inside of the front box door with elephant tape or similar, to reinforce it against accidentally damage as it does seem quite flimsy. Has anyone done anything like that before?
