We had a jacknife with our trailertent that has bent the tow shaft on an  AL-KO Kober trailer and fittings. Has anyone had this happen to them and how hard is it to replace the shaft?

I presume you mean hitch damper tube? Undo the 2 bolts & remove coupling head(ie bit that goes on towball), rear one of these bolts also holds front of hitch damper. Further back there should be one bolt that holds rear of of hitch damper & tube. Remove this & pull out tube. Any Al-Ko supplier will be able to supply a new one. Its possible hitch damper will be damaged as well & need replacing.

Damper tube or A frame damage?

Any photo's?

Can not see how it could damage the damper without damaging the A frame.

The A frame on one side got bent about 10 degrees  but an engineering firm near to me can stretch it back to true. It's the tube going throught the rubber gaiter that's bent by about degrees that needs replacing.

All the ALKO suppliers I've tried will only replace the conplete unit, hitch etc. Are there scrapyards for trailers out there?

Theres caravan breakers listed on this website, but for new Alko parts you need to shop around. here & here are ok & helpful. neither of them list Alko tubes but if you have to buy a complete hitch they will probabley be cheaper than your local caravan shop tho.

If your engineering firm are going to straighten out the bent 'A'' frame section, make sure that they strengthen it on the repaired part with material of the same grade and quality. Do not simply straighten it and leave it at that. As for the damper, I believe that you would be well advised to renew that whole assembly, things that you cannot see could have happened that have damaged other parts that on the surface look ok.

Best of luck with all your repairs

Oh well, back to Spain!
