I am the proud new owner of a gorgeous Viking Fibreline1 caravan, 2 birth. I bought her at an auction and gave her a preliminary check over before bringing her home.

Now I have noticed a few damp areas and am looking for advice as to whether I need to get a professional in or whether I can remedy the problem myself.

I can provide photos and description of the damp areas.

Any advice would e welcomed.

Thanks Michael. A friend took a look yesterday and it seems that the joins (sorry, I don't know the right name), have not been resealed after the caravan was repainted! I am going to get some clear sealant and run this round all the small gaps (I can get a fingernail in), and then pop a heater in the c.van and try and totally dry it out, then observe closely and see what happens!

I guess this is what I get for falling for a 70's c van!!

Hi Caline, did you get any further with your viking fibreline? We've got a 6 berth with damp so would love to see how you got on.

No good sealing with the rails on . Set aside a day to carefully remove all rails . Once the screws are out , a cheesewire helps cut through remaining old sealant . Try not to bend rail . You will need to remove old , hardened sealant and replace with Sikaflex along seams . Replace rails using new screws and no more leaks will appear all being well . The `van frame should now dry out . If any of the screws do not bite , this will be where the rot is . Go to the `fixed it members directory`for the walk through on replacing rot . It is only a patience job , not particularly costly , and your `van will be super at the end of it .

Hi Caline

Do you still have your Viking? I read your post dated Nov 2011 re the damp issues, I am just renovating one now and wondered how you got on.

Thanks
