Here is a quick and easy repair that anyone should be able to do.

My Thetford is a C2 but there must be loads of the other models using the same system. The seal looked ok from above, but the tell tale signs for replacement are the bowl emptying if you leave some flush fluid in it, and when the tank is full carrying it upright to the CDP fluid leaks out (yuk!)

Seal is easy to get hold of from your accessory shop of I got mine from the internet as I live in a remote part of Wales so postage is cheaper than a trip to the nearest dealer which is 25 minutes away. There are quite a few models so check you have the right seal.

Slide off the top cover.

Remove the the 8 screws with a Philips No2 screwdriver (not pozidrive) remember which side the yellow marker is on.

Lift off the cover plate and withdraw the seal.

Place the new seal in the recess, making sure the two cut-outs are in line with the two screw holes at the sides

Replace the top cover plate the same way around as you took it off.

Slide in the removable cover so the yellow markers line up.

Job done, now wash your hands

Hi floggett, That reminds me i have to do ours, i changed the small vent seal about a month ago, cost a fiver from the local caravan shop but they want £17. for the lip seal sounds a bit expensive to me, so I think I’ll shop around, very handy post for anyone who doesn’t have the toilet book.

Also leave it open during the winter or if the van is not in use for long periods as not doing so will cause it to stick.

When carrying the cassette, if you see liquid coming out, don't always assume the worst.  It could quite easily be water left in the bottom of the pan after flushing.  The colour of the liquid is a clue.  If is is blue (or whatever colur your 'chemical' is) the it's time to replace the seal.  Thanks for the diagram.  I'll be able to do it next time I need to replace the seal.  Do you need to put vaseline on the seal?

I dont think you need to use vaseline, you can get some lip and seal spray from Thetford which is a silicon lube? (like the window fitter use I think). Well a lot of furniture polishes contain silicon so could try that, it would make a wonderful picture, someone spraying mr sheen down the toilet bowl!

Regarding lubricating the seal, it's either vaseline or olive oil they tell you NOT to use. Might be worth checking on the instructions (available on line if you haven't got the original). You can buy a lubricant, too, that you spray on. Might be a bit dearer but you don't use a lot.
