We have the proper clips on the back of one of the cupboards there great and the glasses have never droped out in transit.

we have the clips in our caravan for wine glasses, but they are quite close together!

Mine also, I clip them alternately up and down, seems to work.

Ha! One of the cupboards in my 1997 Abbey has some strange clips and brackets that must have had a purpose once-upon-a time... I never thought of wine glass holders... note to self: must buy some wine glasses to see if they fit. Then again, maybe not. But that has given me an idea to see if I can fit some pub type optics. Bottles inside the cupboard with the optic dispenser bit showing underneath. Hmmm...
