Hi all

Can someone please help me source white "plastic" cranked hinges for my front locker box. My tin box is a Rapido Folding Caravan and 18 years old but is in desperate need of new hinges.  She has just been serviced and passed with flying colours except for the locker box which now only has 1 out of 3 working.  The lid fell down while I was attaching the gas and snapped 2 of them.

I have been online since Monday trying to find some but can only see brass ones.   We are due to go away next weekend and I need to replace the broken ones before then. Cannot take the chance of the other one giving up whilst out on the road. Can anyone on the forum suggest an alternative means of securing the locker if I cannot find them. We are in Upminster/Essex.

Thank You

JJ

This may be stating the obvious, but couldn't you use the brass ones and spray them white to match the existing one?

Are these the type of hinge you are looking for:-

If so you can get them from Pennine directly or they are available at most dealers who stock Conway/Pennine/Cabanon spares.

Link to Pennine here :- http://www.thepenninegroup.co.uk/products/spares-catalogue/hinges-catches-brackets-and-stays/hinges-plastic-locker-product.html

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Alan, Thought about them but worried brass too heavy for fibreglass.

Stephenn, My OH says nowhere to attach bungees to when unit folded have tried.

sjgillet, Did look at these but thought maybe too shallow. Don't think the lid goes back far enough at top to allow fitting of them. OH says we need something with holes to match originals so not to damage lid further. Helpful he is.... not!  Looking for easy option I think cause he needs to drill old ones out and pop-rivet new ones, originals have pins to allow removal of lid completely. Will have another look..

My heads buzzing trying to think of solution to this.

Just to let you know now solved the problem.  Spent all day today drilling out the old pop rivets on the broken hinges.  Replaced them with the brass hinges and hoping that these won't put too much stress on the fibreglass lid. It actually makes the locker lid look neater.

I don't think I will paint them just yet, as Alan suggested, because knowing my luck the hinges will get bunged up with paint and won't work. I did a good job even though I say so myself.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice.

JJ
