i get air locks now and then but it is easy to identify the problem.after setting up normally and no water arrives at the open taps with the pump running.the green light will be lit on the panel.as i said just remove pump give it a shake add to water first then the van socket.because it is a pressurized system an air lock can not clear itself.

Michael! When I got back me and my brother took the old pump off and tried the one off his van. It was working for about 5 mins and it stopped. While it was working no water came out of the taps. When it stopped I got the pump out of the butt. And shook it and tapped it and it started working again but still no water. This went on for about 30 mins and now it won't work at all I'm really stuck as to what to do

yes could be non return valve at this time of year.if you have a carver 11 remove the drain plug outside and turn on the pump if no water is gushing out then the non return valve is stuck or blocked. try cleaning the contacts on the pump and the socket.just a thought when i had this problem of stop start on the pump it was a broken wire on the top bend of the pump itself inside the blue tube.

Been down the van today and took the drain plug out of the water heater and no water came out but what I did notice that there was a lot of white powder inside the drain hole could this be the problem thanks mick

did you have the pump switched on when the plug was removed? the white powder could block the non return valve, the powder is more likely to be as you get in a kettle.a soak in white wine vinegar and water can rid you of this.if no water came out it means non is getting in. you could try a back flush through the drain with taps open if you have a hose pipe this clears blockages some times.i cured mine with a long water colour brush gently pushed into the drain plug,do this with the pump running as normal and barrel full of water.this will push back the non return valve if blocking the pipe.

been away in the van and guess what no water again .after the last episode with the pump i did what michael suggested and it still didnt work . so i bit the bullet and bought a new pump as i was not sure what age this one was . i fitted it while we were away as there is no electric in the storage yard . so im back to square one . i did phone the previous owner who told me that they never had a problem with the water and that they bought a new whale pump about 3 yrs ago . they did tell me that the water heater didnt work which they mentioned when i bought the van .would this water system be pressurised or work off a micro switch . thanks mick
How old is the van Mick?
As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, if fault were due to microswitches, then you'd usually suffer a problem with one tap only, not all of them.
A pressure switch will look something like this ...
... and be located near to the water inlet inside the van. It's designed to be adjusted to allow proper water pressure and you could have a faulty power connection to the switch itself or faulty connetions on the water housing that powers the pump.
What inlet/housing do you have? Have yo cleaned up all electrical contacts in both housing and pump fitting/plug.
Have you connected the pump direct to a battery to check it runs properly?
