TIPS AND ADVICE NEEDED URGENTLY we are rapidly losing the will to live while trying to remove old sikaflex or some simlar sealant from the channels in our awning rail, removed to re seal, the back rail came off lovely the old mastic came right off, we are having a hard time with the next rail which is full of the white gluey sealant, we just cant get ridd of it, and if the other three are the same we are considering buying new rails... anyone been dealing with this and what did you do??? (white spitit not helping any one tried nail varnish remover)

regards Lisa

Hi Lisa, not sure how well you have gotten on with this, but I have used a silicone remover gel or liquid in the past on acrylic and general sealant. Test on a small inconspicuous area first.

I got mine from Screwfix, go on the site and put in silicone remover, two types available if I remember, I used the small pot type.

Hope this helps, the job is a pain but vital if you are to get a clean bed for the new sealant. All the best, Rich

get a pot and fill it with white spirit, then get a paintbrush and paint it on generously leave it 10 minutes then go over it with the paintbrush again and it should come off easy, i always find this the easiest way
