Hi,
Just done a pre seasonal check and clean and found my Malaga E water heater has split on four of the studs, you can imagine the result as I re filled the system!! The price for one of these units is £400.00 and to be honest I never use gas to heat the water and was wondering if it could be replaced with a 1kw 10 litre under sink in-line water heater? Price is about £90.00 so you can see the appeal. I would love to know if this is possible, the only thing it obviously wont have is mains water pressure, would this be a problem? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Regards
A Very Stressed Dave & Chel

Problem with such a heater might well be the amperage it needs, probably upwards of 2kw so about 8amps!

Propex should be able to supply a new tank half for your Malaga so repairing yours should not cost that much?

Propex also make an all electric heater designed for caravans, so low wattage

Thanks for the reply Gary,
I was looking at a 1kw unit as a replacement to keep amperage down to a minimum. The old unit ran at 750 watts, so there is an increase of about 25% but we are sited with a 16 amp supply. I know its not an ideal fix but I just wondered if it would work.

Regards

Dave

1kW 7 Litre Oversink / Undersink Water Heater

This heater can be mounted under the sink with vented taps required (as shown on the page).

Should draw just under 4.35A when running, with 5amp fuse backing it up.
