Hi Guys,

I'm after some guidence, I have a 1990 Swift Challenger.

The only thing letting the old girl down is that the wood effect is practically falling off. As you walk past a couple of the end panels near the door and a few edge mouldings the wood effect just falls off and reveals a cream base colour.

I have read about Fablon etc but not sure I will be able to match it well enough or infact adhere it very well.

What can I do as this is a real shame and ruins the interior finish !

B and Q used to do iron on strips for things like that but not sure they would have one that matches your caravan cupboards

Our 1991 Swift Corniche had the same problem, panels and doors that were 'flaking' were lightly sanded with fine sandpaper to remove the loose and to key the rest. Fablon Plus from B & Q in Rustic Oak was a perfect match for our van, it sticks really well. We are very pleased with the result. The main points are, only lightly sand the surface, wipe over with white spirit to remove the dust, make sure the surface is clean and dry - take your time.

Matt, back when you 'van was made much of the photo finish ply for the caravan industry was made by Quinton and Caines in Suffolk. I think they are still in existence but I am not sure if they made panelling for Swift Group. It may be that they still have something similar in stock as they specialise in lightweight panels etc. If you find an answer for the flaking of the finish I would be interested and also of the reason why it happened in the first instance.
