We have tried to take caravan out from storage yard and it wont budge. I tried lifting and rotating it and it seems like the wheels wont move so I assume the brakes are seized. It has not moved since last July as we've had a baby. I'm not very good with DIY though and cant fix anything complicated.

Also one of the corner steadies to the front has broken due to force trying to move it. The end turns freely but it is no longer attached to the rest of the spindle. Can I replace the rod or do I have to replace the entire assembly?

How much would these jobs cost roughly for a professional?

Try asking a local garage for a mechanic to "Knock Off" the brakes. They can seize when the brake has been left on for a long period of time.Best to chock the wheels and leave the handbrake off if the van is to be left for a long time without use.
Long time since I had a caravan but I think the spindle on the corner steady might just screw back in, failing that I don't think they are hard to replace.
I would also check the caravan floor in that area.
Hope you get it sorted and I would get the brakes checked and serviced when you get it moving.

Proffesional labour charges are around £40 per hour for an approved workshop, plus a call out charge of around £35 if you need a mobile engineer to get you moving again off the site. You then would need to add the cost of any spares used, so at best your probably looking at around £200 or possibly more depending on what they find when they try and sort the brakes out and how badly coroded they are.

Unless your confident in what you are doing, then brakes are probably best left to a qualified engineer, even if it then means the corner steady has to wait until another day for the cash to be available for its repair. as a tempory measure you could always use a car jack to hold the corner up or even a few house bricks and no real harm will be done, but best be safe and get someone in to look at your brakes.

Replacing the corner steady is an easy job if you need to ,most people could manage it themselves. Before replacing it check on what is wrong, it may only be a sheered split pin.

It sounds as if you have left your van with the handbrake on, and the linings have rusted to the drums. If you have the room behind the van, hitch up and very gently reverse. The action that prevents the inertia brake operating whilst reversing will free the mechanism and usually free the brakes.  It is worth getting them checked once they are free.

Cournet steadies are around £25-30 it is not worth messing trying to repair.

Lower the steadies on the rear and jack the weight of the bad one using the jockey wheel then their will be 3 or 4 bolts holding it to the body un do these and replace.

Brakes

Try to adjust the brakes off to move the van ounce these are off  jack the wheels up and check the brake cables and expanders as these are usually the first things to seize.

to adjust the brakes of with alko brakes their is a slot in the back of the back plate put a screw driver through this hole and use it to turn a wheel in side the brakes it is usually marked which way to turn it.

knott brakes are far eisier but not usually used on caravans these are a 17or 19mm nut on the top of the back plate.
