Hi all, i am planning to reseal the awning rail on my van this week if the weather holds up!. I bought w4 mastic tape and sikaflex 512. But,i would like to replace all the screws. Does anyone know what size (gauge) the screws are, as i read somewhere that you should use a larger gauge, (so they grip the wooden frame better)but the same length so they dont poke through the wallboard. Hope someone can help.
the best thing that you could do is to remove one of them and take one to the likes of screw fix etc and ask them what they have in a larger gauge as i woulkd imagine that various manufactures use differing screws to hold the rail on, i know thats what im going to do tomorrow but im removing the full front of my van also, im thinking of using stainless screws so they wont rust in the future i dont think there will be any problems with this
Don't go up a size because you will probably find the screw won't fit down in the awning rail groove when you do it up . Buy the same size screw in stainless steel and if you need to, drill a new screw hole in the rail, in between the old ones .
As well as the thread make sure the head is the same size as the originals as otherwise the plastic trim is unlikely to sit in the channel when you refit it or replace it.

Another way to do this is to get a box of wooden matches and some PVA glue dip the match in the glue insert it in the screw hole then break it off that way it will grip the wood while still useing the same size screw and the glue will also stop water getting into the screw hole
