Hi
Think the non return valve has gone on our water heater, could anyone tell me exactly where it is & how to get at it? Or a diagram would be good

What makes you think it's the non return valve Steve?
It should be located near your water inlet housing, on the inside of the van and should be accessible for servicing etc.
Should be something like this ...

An example of location in this illustration, see item 3:

I think that the non return valve is sticking open because when we turn on the hot tap a lot of air comes through before we get any water, this happens each time we switch it on so i think that the water is running back. It has only started to do this since the bad winter weather & yes the system was drained!I forgot to mention that its a Carver cascade mk2 fitted to a late 1980s abi

Looking at the water heater from the outside with the cowling removed , in the lower left hand corner you'll see the drain plug , the other side of the drain plug ( inside the caravan ) you should find the non return valve . Click_here

Hi Steve, I know this is a thread dated back 5 years ago but did replacing the the non return valve solve the problem with the hot water flow?
I ask this as I have exactly the same problem with the hot water on a Cascade MK 2 water heater in my caravan and have just purchased a brand new non return valve today. I haven't actually removed the old one and replaced with the new one as yet but just interested to know what the result was.

Hi folks, I'm new to this site and just wondering is it a big job to replace the non return valve? Do I have to take the whole tank out?

I have answered on you other post. However, you can take the tank out which makes access easier but you still need the right tools for the job as the difficult part is unscrewing and getting the old non return valve out. When I say tight, I mean tight and that's why they snap leaving the 16mm. plastic thread in the hole which you have to remove.

Hi Tango, just seen your question. I replaced the valve which was not really a hard job but it didn't make much difference, five years later & the tap is still spluttering away!

Steve, we have a carver cascade mk 2 water heater in our van, we used to have a similar problem with the system losing pressure, if the pump was left switched on it would kick in every now and then to re pressurise, if the pump was switched off the taps spluttered when we turned them on, at 1st I thought maybe the pump was the problem, before going to the expense of another pump I checked over all the joints in the water pipes and found a couple of small leaks, once these were sorted it's been working perfectly and no more spluttering.
I have also had to replace both the plastic inlet and outlet connectors as they both spilt (not at the same time)the outlet pipe snapped off when I tried to remove the hose, the inlet one snapped off when I tried to undo it, big flat head screwdriver and blow torch soon got the studs out.
