Hi,

I have recently noticed a hissing noise coming from the hitch after the van has been unhitched, like air escaping. This immediately stops on applying the hand brake.Im guessing its the damper. Is this a fault? Any advice much appreciated. The hitch is an alko 1300 and the van a ranger 510/4 2004

Tony

Hi, Sounds like damper to me too, only part of hitch set up,that could cause the hissing,it has a leak, and drawing in and expelling air, looks like need re placement.

The Damper helps stop the van buffeting the car on braking and on pulling away.

hope that helps

Wouldn't this hissing just be the noise of air being sucked into the gaiter as the damper expands when taken off the hitch?

Hi, I would have thought the same, exept noise stopped when hand brake applied, only way is to see if the air hissing can be pin pointed, with hand brake on and compress the hitch, and same with hand brake off.
