Hi all,

I am very much a newbie to the caravanning world having recently purchased an ABI Ace Tycoon.  I noted there was a set switches on the wall for the fanmaster, waterheater and 12v/pump however I never seemed to get the first to two switches (fanmaster/waterheater) to work, in other words I would press the on button but nothing would light up or work.  As the water was hot anyway I could only assume it was being heated from the gas however  the fanmaster would not work at all despite pressing the reset switch.  Anyway I put this to the back of my mind until having recently taken the van out again however this time I noted straight away that the wall switches for the fanmaster and water heater were now lit up, still though I could not get the fanmaster to run.  As for the water heater switch well the alarm light was lit up so I naturally investigated and pushed the reset button on the water heater.  Having done this I found that the water was becoming hot again however the wall switches were again dead, no power, no lights except again for the 12v/pump switch.

So I have checked all fuses, checked battery and really do not understand what is going on and very much appealing to any knowledgeable caravanners out there who may have some advice or point me in the right direction.  I live in Bridgend so if there is anyone who knows of someone in this area that can be recommended then please could you let me know.

Thanks all

Two different setup's, the water heater works on gas or mains electric, the Fanmaster only electric, unless you use it's fan and light the gas fire.

So the water heater wall switch with three lights is solely for gas, the main electric heating is controlled by a simple on/off fused switched spur, this should have a red neon light to show it's on.
This switch may be next to the gas control switch but more often at floor level close to the water heater.

The Fanmaster also has a similar switch, less a red neon light, to isolate the mains from the unit, again it can be next to the control switch but just as likely to be hidden in the wardrobe.
I'd first then expect this switch is off hence no heat! also check fuse, it should be 10A or 13A not 5A as is often mistakenly fitted.

Also worth noting, Reset switches were not fitted to the very early 1995 models, if this is the case and and the 'thermal fuse' is blown, this will need replacement/upgrading to get it working again

Many thanks for the feedback.  I don't suppose you could point me in the location of the thermal fuse?

So are you saying yours is an early 95 van? if factory fitted, this would mean the Fanmaster is at the back of a 3000S gas fire?

It is in the same place as where the reset switch would be, only difference and clue from the outside is the flap to press for the reset is not cut out so cannot move.

If cut out and you gently tap the flap, it should bounce very very slightly, if it don't it's solid and most likely needs upgrading with a reset switch kit, these you can only get from me.

Tweety Pie is actually taking a well earned break from his pen!
Seriously, I altered the permissions to change the business address on my website and somehow left everything read only or totally private when I signed out.
Since then I cannot get on the internet on the only computer with software loaded to get back into my website
