Hi.
Our caravan, a 1990 model, now has damp in the front corners.
Do you think it would be of any benefit to run a sealant around the awning rail, not a proper job as in removing and resealing, but just something to fill any gaps.
Thanks.

As the caravan is old its worth a try. Heat the cartridge in hot water for few mins to improve flow & then push nozzle under plastic & run it round. I did this to my '80s 'van.

Please don't use silicone sealant for sealing caravans , it doesn't stay stuck for long , use a proper caravan mastic or polyurethane sealant and prepare the surfaces by first cleaning with white spirit and then clean again with methylated spirits .

I know someone who used frame sealant for windows as it can b used to seal ally windows, it's been water tight for 3 years, the proper stuff is so expensive if you have an older van lol

Hi.
Thanks for your replies, much more positive than I expected, I thought you'd be against the easier option.
I have to admit looking at Wizard's talk through on resealing an awning rail, it does make it look doable.
One of the things that would put me off though is that the top of the caravan seems okay and I would rather not mess around and create any problems, I don't think there are any joints which would allow just the front pieces to be removed.
Could I ask, when resealing over the existing seal, should you be removing the old mastic with white spirit or just using the meths to clean?
Thank you for your help.

Well from what i have read on caravan resealing i would remove any old mastic with a knife and then give the area a good clean with white spirit, then clean again using meths.
