Hello all,

        My wife and I bought an Elddis typhoon ex200 1992 two months ago for £900, unfortunatly a friend of mine has had a look around it and found that the offside front of the caravan has had some damp and it looks like the wooden frame that the awning rail screws in to is rotten!

I have taken it to a caravan repair shop but they have said it would cost between £1000-£2000 to repair, which we cant afford as we spent all of our savings on the caravan.

I am thinking of having a go at the repairs myself but dont really know how to go about it, the repair man told me i would have to take the front of the caravan off to get at the framework, can you not get at it from the inside?

Any help would be greatly appreiciated :)

Also i have noticed the door frame coming away at the bottom and the bottom 3 screws came out with only my fingers so it looks like there is some rot there too.

Thanks Nathan

Hi Nathan,

You have come to the right place!

You could start by having a good look at;

He is often around in person too.

Its going to look daunting at first, but caravan construction is just basic woodwork.
The reason the caravan dealers charge so much is that it is very labour intensive.

I'm not familiar with that model but as stated have a look at the "fixed it club" and see some of the resorations on there.

Have a look here, these are some of the fixed it club listings

Hi Nathan , you should be able to access the batten frame work from the inside obviously it's not as easy to get to as removing the front of the caravan, but removing the front is a big job and i wouldn't recommend it .
Can you post some pictures of your damp area on here ( both from the inside and outside ) or email them to me .
Have a look at the Fixed it Club members websites Here to see just what can be repaired , and do ask as many questions as you like we're here to help .
