hi guys ,i know there was something on here about how to fix these little holes but i cant find it ,anyway we totally stripped out our caravan last year and renewed nearly all the walls due to total damp,we seem to have sorted the tiny pin size holes on one side, but on the other side there are a number of holes along the side where obviously there was a previous rotten batton,we have noticed some staining on the inside walls and when we investigated we found about three or four little holes and when we press then the water seeps out ,obviously we didnt seal them off when we done the job ,though hubby said he put sealant on it and ive rubbed it off in one of my cleaning sprees !!!!,any advice welcome dont want all the hard work to go down the swanny , and our fabulous summer isnt helping matters thanks in anticipation   wynnie

Hi there, i have came across this as well and was looking for a way to repair the holes. I was thinking of getting a thin piece of alloy and putting the non setting sealant on and covering the holes with this, anyone got any better ideas?

If it was in a place that you could fit a piece of trim that matched the rails, you could bond it on with Sikaflex. Water would never get past that!

Sikaflex over the holes and a nice vinyl or similar decal over the area should keep it watertight. If it is only a small area you could Sikaflex a fridge vent over it or if it is a very small area use a reflector.

I used Soudal Fix-All on the pin holes I found. They were just under the line of the off-side awning rail, so sticking reflectors or vents over them would look odd. I would be interested in a better fix, the olny one I can think of is bonding a piece of aluminium on the inside of the skin with Sikaflex or Soudal, then filling the hole with epoxy then paint over. But as I've already put the side skin back together after a rebuild of the timber frame etc. on a 20 year old van, I'll just go with the Soudal/Sikaflex fix and keep an eye on it.

I have found that owning a moisture detector and using it regularly, especially during and after heavy rainfall helps me in keeping my old van dry. The other day I found that the main roof light had started to leak, but the damp bits were at the front down the sides of the windows. The caravan is parked nose down on the drive so water travels that way. I traced the damp up the main centre timber to the roof light, took it off and discovered the sealant had turned mushy, and the timber was wet but still wood coloured instead of that awful black it goes when you have serious trouble. A scrub up with a blade and turps etc. new mastic in place, and we are all dry again. A very pleasing bit of easy maintenance.

thanks for replys think the decal part would be ideal due to where the holes are ,i could get away with doing 460/2 as this is what the caravan is and they decals had rotted off ,but i cant find any that would do its either silly stickers or things that just wont do, i would need it maybe on one long strip instead of any individual numbers any ideas anyone ?

There is a company that specialises in caravan decals and can make up almost anything to your requirements even from a photo. I can't remember their name at the moment but I am sure someone on here will tell you.

That was not the one I was thinking of Michael but they would probably have something suitable. If I get a few minutes later today I will try to find the details.

i used fiber glass resin for my roof, i made sure the surrounding area was grease free, dented the small holes in a bit and then filled with glass fibber resin, then topped with car filler i then sanded flat, then painted with the same colour, roof is dry and it looks ok, i did the same with a area on top of the wheel arch, again filled with resin and then car filler and then put a reflector over the repair, you could do the same and then put a narrow strip over the top should look ok hope this helps form ged
