Just got home yesterday and when we got back and was emtying the fridge I noticed that the freezer had started to defrost. Only ever had this problem once before and found that a spade had come off the relay in the back of the car. I checked the 12S socket on car and found everything OK so started to check out the van, that's when I found this 'problem'.
When I unscrewed the two halves of the 12S plug besides it obviously needing replacement I found that the 12S grey 7 core cable on my van is in fact only 5 core!!
The two wires missing are the brown one to pin 5 which the diagrams I have say is for 'reverse sensor' and usually spare anyway so I'm not too bothered about that but the other one that is missing is the blue wire to pin 2 which is for battery charging.
So, does my 'van, a 2003 Swift Charisma 550 not charge the battery on the move or does it have a circuit inside the van to charge it some other way through the green wire on pin 4. I can't see how that can be cos as pin 4 is permanent live it would be taking power to the caravan battery even without the engine running.
I've been thinking about converting to 13 pin for a while and now I've decided it's time to replace the 7 pin plugs now might be the time to do it. I've been looking about though and can't seem to find any 13 core cable at any of the dealers or accessory shops and it seems very expensive on the net. I'm not too convinced about cramming the existing two 7 core cables into 13 pin plugs and sockets although folks have told me this is fine.
any thoughts??
