Some years ago I bought an old caravan without mains electric. That also had 12v lighting, and the fridge and the gas fire required 12v for the ignition, plus there was a 12v water pump.
The previous owner had some weird set up where I think he ran it off a car battery placed outside the caravan with wires running through the window or something. Anyway, not knowing negative from positive I took the caravan to a local caravan repairer and he fitted a leisure battery under the front seating and wired it all up properly for me. Most of the wiring was already there so all he had to do was hook into it. Took less than an hour from taking the caravan in to getting it back again and all he charged me was for the battery and a few quid for his time.
I only camped for a couple of days at a time and the 12v system hardly used any battery at all. I used to take the battery out and recharge at home occasionally and on a leisure battery fast charger it took a few minutes!
I thought of using a tent type EHU lead but I found the 12 volt system plus gas for heating and the fridge was more than adequate.
As suggested, getting a leisure battery fitted may solve any problems you have. You could still use EHU for other stuff if you wanted...in fact you could charge your battery from that although it probably won't need charging too often.
