I plan to ditch the pink stained carpet for a nice spongy wood strip effect vinyl.

Has anyone done this - I seen this type of vinyl comes in planks too or is this additional pointless work?  Is using rolled vinyl better?

There is a spare wheel access pull up door in the middle of the floor.  are there good pointers for me on getting the edges curved on this area as no matter what I dont want raw white edging.

Any tips on getting nice sharp clean edges would be good.  If using a roll will the length be long enough assuming (without measuring yet) I need 1.5m ish. Mastic around edging a good idea too.

Thanks

We bought a cushionfloor vinyl for the new trailer/RV, seller was on ebay and you can buy what you need from a selection of widths.

It lays pretty flat with sticking down, but you could use a double-sided adhesive tape underneath, I don't know if the back will take to it or not.

A sharp Stanley knife is the best way to cut it, and you can get soft plastic edging to cover the cut edges.

Take a bit of care over it and it comes out OK.

You will have a problem with the hatch for the spare wheel, the carpet is wrapped around it and goes down the sides of the hole so when you remove the carpet you will have quite a large gap.I added some strips of wood to the hatch itself with glue and screws to make the gap smaller and then have covered it with flat aluminium strips screwed to the hatch so it will lift out.

If you want to seal the edges use use a small bead of good quality clear silicone sealer, allow it to cure for a few minutes and run a wet finger along and you will hardly see it.

If you want to stick it down use either double sided tape for vinyl or vinyl adhesive, carpet double sided will react with the vinyl and go all gooey.

All vinyls now are made to lay flat and will cause a bubble if left too big i use a hooked blade in the knife but this takes practice.

Be careful how you measure the floor and if you are having a wood board design the boards usually run down the length of the material.

The vinyl planks are very hard wearing but need to be stuck down and are quite heavy.

You may tell from all this that i am a carpet fitter

I took the cream carpet out of my caravan cause the carpet runner kept 'walking' across it. I put stick on tiles down, the long ones that look like laminate flooring. It looks great and the carpet runner does not move and they are easy to clean. Cost about £30 from Homebase. Hope this gives you an idea.

Why do people ask for advice and then do not give any reply or thank you, makes you not want to bother in future

i have put pictures of new flooring on my profile page so please have a look. I'm very pleased with the result, so much easier to clean especially with children or animals in van.
