Hi all.

Im a caravan newbie. i recently bought my first caravan, a compass omega merit 1990. im a trusting guy and bought the van in good faith from an elderly couple who was wanting to give the caravaning up.my main problem is i cant get the water pump to work, or the water heater to work. i bought a new submersable pump thinking that was the problem, but got nothing, no noise from it and no water pumping from it. the heater doesnt seem to fill up and i dont get any lights from the unit. there is a wire/plug connected to the black box behind the little tank.the zig unit seems to be in good order, all fuses look good and i fitted a brand new battery.im due to go away in a couple of days but i would really like to get this sorted. all the wires look ok in the van and i dont see any problems under the van. any help greatly appreciated.

hi craig, not familiar with your van but most are the same.Your water heater will run off gas and or 240v electric, not a good idear to switch on if no water in the tank ?.follow a few simple steps and try to eliminate each one.First hook up the pump to your battery, then in a bucket of water place the pump then connect up to see if the pump runs. yes or no then tick off.next check that theres a good connection from the pump to your van.if and when you have established water is pumping into your tank then you can go ahead and check your water heater,im afraid you wont get anywhere with your heater until you get the water running. It really sounds like that you havent got a good connection to your pump so try that first.all the best geoff.

sounds as if you have no 12v.does the 12v lights work?is there a switch marked car-off-caravan? if so it needs to be switched to caravan.
alternately check the fuses. Can you not contact the seller? they should be able to advise you

have you tried all the taps to see if the pump works as there may be a sticking micro switch on the kitchen tap or if the water system is not microswitch operated then the water pressure switch may need adjusting or replacing
