If the vans battery was taken out/disconnected at the service. The mover control unit will have lost it's memory. You'll need to pair them up again. I would have a word with who ever done the service and complain about it.

The battery in the hand set needs replacing. It's got life enough to put the light on but not enough to send the signal.
Both of the above has happened with ours. Now I always carry a spare battery

It's easy to reset. It'll tell you in the instructions
With ours there a wee reset button on the control that you push in with a needle or something and at the same time press and hold the on button on the remote control for about 10secs

That doesn't sound right at all. Mine has an isolator switch, so always loses it's power after use. Never had a problem with it losing it's memory of the remote though.
