bought a caravan and the 240volts work but the 12v lights dont i have replaved the charger inverter unit but when the external wires to the battery/lights is not connected there is 12v comming out and when the wires are connected to the battery/lights there is only 5 volts coming out and the lights are very dim the caravan is a abi marauder 500ct 1995

I think what you are saying is that with  the van on ehu, if the battery is diconnected then you have a 12v system.  If you then connect the battery the lights are very dim.

If that is the case the starting point is the battery.  Fully charge it off the van, then refit it and see what happens.  If all is well, then you have found your culprit, if not it indicates a short and further investigation is required.  Incidently where are you measuring the voltage, and with what.

i was measuring from the inverter and was getting 13. something and then when i plugged the wires back into it and tested from the battery terminals i was getting 5 volts it was using a volt meter but the battery is dead so i will try that first

i have the caravan on ehu and the 12v lights dont work with the battery disconnected

Thats right, the 12v light run from the battery. If you are only getting 5v accrossthe battery, then the light will be dim.  Fully charge the battery( 13.5+v) and try again. It sounds like that is you trouble.

we have a coachman mirage and are experiencing some problems with the battery can any one help.

When i test across the battery using a tester it is indicating fully charged,but when i connect to the caravan i dont appear to be getting any out put whatso ever.I have tried the following;i ahve cleaned the terminals,checked the fuses,and charged the battery externaly with a charger.

 

please advice.

when the ehu is disconnected nothing in the caravan works even with the battery connected the 12v doesnt work when ehu connected all 240v work and caravan 12v lights very dim i have replaced the charger/transformer with a brand new one and fully charged the battery but the 12v lights are still dim but work

found the fuse from the battery blown so replaced that and now i have lights off the battery but still very dim
