Hello, hope you can advice me.
I am new to caraving, to give you a bit of background I have 3 year old twin daughters and did have a motorbike, basically decided to sell the bike to buy a caravan so i could do more with my family.
Our budget was to buy a caravan including everything we needed for £1500, limited budget. We searched and searched and we had to be looking at abour 1990 model, but could not believe what we looked at what amazed me they majority didnt even try to clean them up. Any way we came across a Bailey Scorpio Champagne 1994 on the interenet went to have a look, it was excellent the outside was the best we had seen. the inside was brilliant but not perfect needed a run down and varnish not a problem to spend a few hours here and their through the winter. So this was three weeks ago, quiet hany diy and learn as I go along.
So as planned stripped out all beds, flooring because we wanted a new floor, but basically intention to cosmetically to do it up.
Now when we looked at, they showed us a mark on the ceiling, which if he didnt show me I would not of noticed, he told me it had been resealed proffesionly, as it had been raining the night before I checked it and it was dry as a bone, so when i stripped everything out I decided to take the ceiling panel out and replace it so if i ever sold it again it would not be an issue.
Then the nightmare started, when I took the panel out the beam in the middle was wet through, so took the panel out and all foam installtion and then had to put a bucket in the caravan to catch the water, i that point i thought should i do a botch job and sell it on, but as a man of principle I have been stung but not fair to inflict it on some one else, so I decided to strip all the bad stuff back, which meant stripping back about 3rd of the ceiling and the right hand corner and about a 1/3 of the wall on the right hand side, this is how bad it was, the chip board i removed i pulled it away like paper, so now I have stripped it right back and now have some questions, any advise is appreciated I have a limited budget, but I want to do it right, so when its finished I know its right.
1 - When stripping out the right hand side, I had to remove the overhead cupboard which was a nightmare, I learnt that they build caravans inside out, so on the left hand side I have stripped the ceiling out to the edge of the left cupboard, which i dont want to take out, put the ceiling panel is screwed to, so is it possible to fix with out removing it? Also when I put the other one back does any one have recommendations how to do it, ie use of brackets etc?
2 - With regards to sealing it, what do i use and were, or is it basically a case of sealing it were ever i can now stripped back.
3 - The plywood I will need to replace am i correct in thinking its 3mm?
4 - I will need to recordate it, I know I will never find the wall paper thats on it, but I want to make it look right and re wall paper it all, is it like wall papering a house, use a steamer to get old wallpaper off and then paste and new wallpaper.
I know it will never be the same again, but i want to try so any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated
