We bought a Swift Merlin dealer special on 14/07/09 and are very pleased with the van.

Problem 1.
We have had throws on the front seats from new but on returning from our holidays last week we noticed that some of the stitching on the top of the seat base has come undone and also one of the seams is coming apart. The van has only had light use.
I rang a very helpful lady at Leisure Furnishings,I've dealt with her before,to explain the problem, and she advised me to contact my dealer who would put a warranty claim in and then I could arrange with her to have the seat cushions collected. Brilliant I thought.
Rang my supplying dealer and the gentleman said,"oh no.Furnishings aren't covered by Swift warranty. Only 12 months".
I wasn't very happy with him as you can imagine and told him so.He is supposed to be contacting Swift and phoning me back but I don't hold out much hope of this.
I've looked through the warranty booklet and can find no mention of upholstery not being covered for the full 3 years.
My first questions are.
Has anyone had to put a claim in on a Swift warranty for seat stitching coming apart? How did you get on?Is it written anywhere in the warranty that furnishings are excluded?

Problem 2.
Took the van in for it's 2nd service last week to a different service centre,NCC approved, had a lot of trouble with supplying dealer on first service.Got a phone call from them today saying they have found a surprisingly large amount of damp around the front windows. They said it's very unusual for a 2 year old van to have so much damp and think it could of been damp on the 1st service and not picked up and it's gradually got worse.
What is my next step to get this problem sorted? Do I have to contact my supplying dealer bearing in mind I have no faith in them at all and will never use their service centre again, or can I contact Swift direct?

Sorry for going on a bit but I feel a little better for typing this out.

I've just downloaded and read the Swift Warranty Booklet which states (unfortunately):

In years 2 and 3 the warranty will
specifically exclude:
• All soft furnishings

The booklet is available here and the text I've quoted is from page3.

There's nothing stopping you from contacting Swift direct; contact links page here; although I would give opportunity for your dealer to respond first as you've already contacted them, then contact Swift if your not satisfied with replies.

I would say, it's usual for furnishings to be excluded from warranty. I appreciate you say the vans had limited use so maybe the stitching shouldn't be coming loose, but your use of the van is almost impossible to prove.

As for the damp issue, that does sound poor and you'd need to consult your dealer on this, again with the option of escalating to Swift if there's evidence (although again difficult to categorically prove) of negligence.

You can contact other swift dealers to see if they will take on the warranty work on the damp.  We started using throws on our seats but then decided to get them covered.  £300 it cost and looks realy good and gives far better protection than throws.

It is not a specific exclusion in what you have quoted, but neither is it included in what it says IS covered in years 2 and 3.

Best bet is SwiftTalk.

Thanks for that Paul.
I've just googled Swift Warranty and I got this
No mention of upholstery.

Interestingly, it seems that Swift have published two documents relating to their warranty. I suspect the actual booklet in my previous post (the link is a direct pdf download from Swift incidentally), is a more specific document as it seems to be a copy of the warranty/service booklet supplied with the vans original documentation.

The page you've linked seems to be an overview in my opinion, but none-the-less, does cause confusion given they have the warranty booklet too.
For absolute clarity, raise the upholstery question direct with Swift.

PS: The warranty handbook in it's original link, is half way down the 'Contact Us' page on The Swift Group website.

Hi there did you ever sort the problem with the upholstery ?? My Swift van is 18 months old and ive noticed a couple of stitches have come loose on the Impala sofa. I did the usual and contacted my dealer YC Leisure. At firstvthey said sendbiver photis any we'll put a warranty claim in soni did. I didnt hear from them in over a week so called to chase it up. Ive been advised soft furnishings are only covered for 12 months. Ive gone through all paperwork and no where does it say 12 months. Ive phoned swift and they have said its nothing to do with them because its a habitation issue and I need to take it up with the dealer. I think im on a road to nowhere because they are saying its not covered but on swift website it says three years warranty. ....no mention of soft furnishings. As a customer I bought the caravan whole so to me the warranty lays with swift.
I just dont know what to do now.
Any advice would be appreciated
