my two year old coachman amara has developed the following problem.

when i connected my water supply to the van , my wife then turned on the pump as we have done dozens of times, only to find that the water was being sent back outside through a clear plastic pipe , which i suspect is an overflow pipe. the valves are in the correct position and a small amount of water gets to the taps, but while the pump is switched on it continually  ejects the water.  i have booked the van in to my local sevicers   ( it was serviced in july this year )  it is a truma system and i am trying to find out if it is covered in the warranty ,  ( i will make some calls very soon ) .

i  just wondered if anyone else has had this problem or could shed some light on this matter , as i would like to be a bit genned up when i take it in.  my new e-mail address is davejervis2010 at hotmail.co.uk

i have been in contact with truma who have told me that i need to replace the hot water elbow joint,  however after thinking about it wouldnt an elbow joint just allow water to pass trough still ?, maybe i need to contact them again. still open for suggestions tho

Further to Michael's suggestion, I've had the drain valve stick open once and it needed a gentle 'tap' with a small pin hammer to free it. I believe there's a small ball bearing in the valve that sticks, and the 'whack' shifts it.

I had a similar problem a few years ago which was caused by a faulty non return valve on what appears to be an overflow on the back of the heater.

There is a clear plastic pipe which has a 'T' piece in it with one side leading to the ground outside and the other I can't remember where (the van's in storage at the moment) but I think it's to the taps.

The non-return is integral in the 'T' piece and if it is not working, the water is ejected as soon as a tap is turned on.  On my van this overflow is further back than the drain pipe so when you look under the van you have to get right down to see where it is coming out.

Funnily enough, mine was faulty when I first used it after a service.

The dealer replaced the valve free of charge even though it was out of warranty.

It is only a small part and I doubt if it will cost much to replace however, it drove me barmy trying to find out what was going on.
