Hi All,

I am hoping someone may be able to help me. I have now owned my 2002 Stirling Elite Explorer for about 4 years and up until now had no problems.

I used the caravan a few weeks ago and then again last weekend and both times the Truma Ultrastore had problems heating the water using gas, fortunately I had a generator with me and was able to get around the problem.

When I switch it to work on gas it ignites and runs for a minute or so and then starts the ticking cycle ignites again for a few seconds then starts ticking but fails to ignite and the red light comes on. (the flue cover is removed)

Yesterday I stripped it down and blew the gas burner and solenoid valve etc etc out with a compressor and reassembled, refilled and tried it and its still the same . It senses when it ignites and shuts the spark off then will run for a while and go out. I have checked the gas tap below the sink and it is open, if I remove the gas pipe from the truma ultrastore gas comes out. Last night I went out to check if the flame was actually going out as I thought it may be a faulty flame sensor not sensing it was alight. I could see the blue flame inside the vent but after a few minutes the flame would go out and the ticking cycle would start until it would fail to light and shut off.

This draws me to think its a gas supply problem, the cooker , oven and central heating/fire all work at the same time without issue so I believe the regulator is working ok. Sorry for rambling on but thought I would try to provide as much info as possible.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

-------------
Regards, Simon

Thanks Michael. I have just spoken to him and although he does not do Truma Ultrastore units he has given me some ideas as to what to try next.

possibly (1) NEEDS A NEW THERMOCOUPLE OR (2) THE GAS VALVE
ON THE APPLIANCE IS FAULTY.
I WOULD SUGGEST FIRST REPLACE THE THERMOCOUPLE AS THIS IS THE CHEAPEST.

I have seen this a few times and the remedy has been to replace the PCB. I did try with the first one changing the associated bits one at a time but in all instances it was the PCB at fault. The gas valve must be opening and the ignition sequence correct for the heater to ignite. Do you have a friend that you could borrow a PCB from just to prove the fault??

I replaced the gas solenoid valve today and ran it for a few hours without issue. The old valve was opening ok but must have had a restriction inside it.

Thanks for all the help, I will try it again tomorrow just to be sure
