Our caravan has a Truma water boiler. It is a gas only system. However, when we try to fire it up the red light comes on. Can anybody tell me if the ignition should work off the mains or the leisure battery? We have tried it with the mains on and it does not fire up.
Thank you.

Have you got the flue cover off, as this will stop the unit from firing up.

I am sure there is a small fuse, on top of that card.
The other thing to check is to see if the burner venturi is clear. I have heard of spiders taking residence in there. Not sure if that is an urban myth though

I find that the first time I fire up the gas boiler it fails and the red light comes on, but it always works the second time. I put it down to the gas supplynhaving been off and ther being a need for a short time for the gas to get through.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Could be many causes, but if you have gas in the bottle and the external flue cover is off then start at the beginning. With a fully charged battery, put your head somewhere near the heater inside the van. Get someone to switch on the gas control. You should hear a clunk as the gas valve solenoid opens, followed by a rapid tick tick tick until the gas ignites.
Is any of this happening?????

We have a problem with our Truma boiler. The main 5amp fuse blows after the heater has been on for a couple of hours or so. I drained the tank, refilled in the hope that the heat-sensor switch would reset. Turned the system back on, water gets very hot & again after a couple of hours the fuse blows again. I've fitted a led to the main switch so that I can see if the fuse has blown, before I had to take fuse out & check with tester as no light was fitted. The boiler works fine with gas but it's the electric side I'm worried about. Could the heating element be chalked up? Could the thermostat not be working?
Thanks in advance for any suggesttions.

Could the heating element be chalked up
possibly the element is overheating due to fault inside itself or the thermostat is not switching off the element at 70 degs causing an overheat.

Thanks Michael. I will check out the element later. I've just changed the standard switch for a lighted switch so I can see if the fuse blows or now. As yet the fuse is ok but the heating of water is tempermental.

It may be better to start another topic Makka1234 as this one is 3 years old, you may get a better response.
