when i put my caravan onto the towball it locks in ok but when i put the stableiser lever down i have to stand on it to get it to go down can anyone tell me why this is please
You shouldn't have to stand on it at all, despite the guy I met recently who practically jumped up and down on his when he coupled his van up...
I'm assuming this is on an Alko towball or suitable alternative. Has it always behaved this way or is this a recent occurance?
Maybe mis-adjusted friction pads. Someone recently raised this query and on examination, it seems there was an extra shim washer on one of the friction pads, causing the 'clamping' to be too tight.
Have a look at the manual here with view of removing and checking pads.
My two previous cars had swan necks (Both Brink), and engaged the stabiliser without too much effort, but my current one has an Alko (copy) bolt on ball and is much harder to engage.
my hitch is quite hard to clamp on but i accept this for the simple reason if it was slack or loose to engage it would not be able to do its job of gripping the ball.when you push down the handle it is pushing the pads onto the ball.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
