Hi I wonder if anyone could help me. Ive got a 1993 coachman genius, Im only out on my 3rd trip away-to Seton Sands with my wife and 2 young children.
Everything was fine with set up, until I noticed the carver water heater drain plug was leaking. I tried to nip it up a little with a 2p held in a set of mole grips and I broke the plug :( water rushing out. Obviously I'm without water at the moment as the pump tries to constanly fill the hot water tank.
Once im home I will have to remove whats left in thread which should be ok as its plastic and replace drain plug.

However does anyone have any tips as to what I can do now while on site? I thought of a whittled down piece of suitable dowel or some kind of rubber stopper???

Thanks

a rubber bung or a cork should do it if you don't more than take the chill of the water in the tank, problem being is full heat pressurises the tank and this will blow the bung out.
To remove the remains, use a hacksaw blade to cut down through the plastic until you scratch at the metal threads do this several times. Now use a small screwdriver as a chisel to dig under at a cut point to snap through and then you can remove it easily.

Thanks very much for your replies. I will try some sort of cork or rubber bung to get me by for the next couple of days.
If this doesn't work, can anyone tell me where to find the non return valve so at least I can run cold from the tap?

Thanks
Iain

I had the same problem as you about ten years ago and what I did was cut a small piece of wood from the top of a wind break pole and shaved it down to size with a sharp knife then gently screwed it into the hole until it cought the thred and it began to tighten up with the thred it lasted all weekend until the caravan spares shop opened.Ian

Hi folks - Thanks for all the help above.

Just an update to this - this was my last outing of the season and to get me through, I got a piece of dowel from B&Q and shaved it down and hammered it in. The hot water tank remained off and we just used kettle for hot water, the was a little drip - but no major water loss.

Back home, I got a new drain plug, hacksawed the old one out as per instructions above and inserted the new drain plug. I then tested the system - it still leaked.
I took the cowling off to find the pressure relief valve was on its last legs. There was a crack in the threads - again the only option was to break it off and hacksaw it out.

Once the new pressure relief valve was inserted the hot water system is good as new!

Only problem I have now is I can't stabilise the water pressure - either the pump runs all the time or doesnt run when tap is open! Ive checked for leaks, and spent umpteen hours adjusting the whale pressure switch adjustment screw to no avail.

Im guessing maybe the pressure switch has either had it or the diaphragm needs a clean/service?

Thanks

Iain
