I'm in the process of doing my cupboard doors and carcasses, I've used Wickes melamine primer followed by Wickes professional undercoat (oil based) and then oil based gloss mixed to a colour I choose off a colour chart.

Although I dont think it's necessary I also gave the doors a light sanding to remove the shine from the melamine then filled any little dings and scratches before giving them a couple of coats of the special primer.

BTW the Wickes universal primer and Dulux kitchen & bathroom paint combination (two coats of each) on the internal walls still holding up well after a fews months of living in the van Monday to Friday. No signs of any wear or disclolouration. I would definately recommend this to anyone wanting to give their van a bit of a sprucing up.
