We spent 10 weeks in France this year and because our car is in it's first year of warranty (meaning we get RAC cover in Europe) we decided to save £200 +
The car is not the problem on a trip like this but the caravan is, what comments and cover have people experienced please.
We have used it and claimed on it and they are excellent. Were going to repatriate car, caravan, wife & dog until our son came over. They did repatriate me first class BA with Doctor attending.
They are probably the biggest operator in Europe and a number of other sellers of cover will use their resources.

I have always found shortcomings on the caravanning side in the breakdown cover provided with new cars so always buy Mayday for the UK and Red Pennant for Europe.
Hi Nomad06, I totally agree with David, my Honda had free breakdown cover for the first 3 years, however it only covered the car. I paid for Red Pennant (they are primarily set-up for caravan owners) just for peace of mind.
I have always used Red Pennant who will repatriate all the outfit , send out parts or get you a relay to a repair place. In 30 years going into Europe never had to use them but they are reported to be brilliant. I personally would never risk going without some form of cover even if the car is new. We met one couple who had a brand new car and broke down just out of Calais, had a loan car which did ditto further down the line and RP got them to a camp site and the car to a repairer. Encountered them when watching a British van towed by a German recovery truck coming on site. Not worth being a cheap skate!
