Delamination again !! what is delaminiation and WHAT causes it, is it a serious condition , has any one had a dealer recify the problem for them and if so how much did they charge,Any help would be appreciated as i am looking at buying a nice van but with this problem. George
The caravan floor is made up like a sandwich , with ply on the bottom insulation in the centre and ply on the top , all glued together, delam is when they start to come unglued and seperate, I had a repair by a mobile engineer for £80 square meter , I lifted the carpet and refited after.

Does it not happen in the walls as well???
As I thought they too were a lamination of different sheet materials.
yes it does if water penetrates the side like a fold where the panels meet.first thing you see is a bulging of the wall as the wall expands.odd times you can see pin holes in that area (osmosis ) start to appear on the outside.4 or 5 layers i have a picture somewhere.you can also get it round the door if the rubber seals fail.

But it's generally a term used for the floor, especially in caravan adverts. Right?
I'm suffering a little delamination in my walls. Both side windows on my little Lunar Clubman seem to be letting water in at their front bottom corners. It's not too bad ATM, but is a job I would like to get round to this season.
I also noticed, when I took it on it's first long trip under my ownership, that underneath some of the ply seemed to have little bits of, what I can only describe as, kindling wood hanging down under the kitchen.
It only seems to be the very first thin veneer of wood that's let go, & only a few thin strips. The floor seems to be fine, no sponginess anywhere.
Shall I get under there with some bituminous paint??? I have some left over from when I built my dad's workshop. It's great for protecting wood from moisture.
The 'van's over 20 years old, so I'm guessing the underside of the floor could do with some re-proofing.
possible water ingress from above ie.the worktops or a sink not sealed at the rear and running down the back.i had a problem with a drain not sealed one time and each time water was let out it was squirting onto the wall.worth a check anyway jeff.the fire tinder look is plywood laminating and splitting into strips.
