This will be our third season with our Reich motormover fitted, and I mistakenly thought that because we had taken our caravan for its annual service to the same dealer who fitted the mover, that its service would become part of the package along with the rest of the checks and maintanance they make.

So, thinking that the squeeking noise we were sometimes getting was due to some small particles of grit curtosy of the CC Sandringham estate pitches, I mentioned this to the workshop when I rang to book this years service and a couple of replacement tyres as our caravan is now in its 6th season. I was shocked to find that a motormover service is an extra item, charged at £25, and not carried out unless the customer specifically asks for it. So our mover had not been lubricated or checked for any wear or damage since the day it was fitted three years ago, no wonder it was starting to squeek and groan for the wants of a bit of grease and oil in the appropiate places.

We have now got the caravan booked in for a full works service, including mover and damp check, the two new tyres and habitation check, I dont suppose I will see much change out of £400, but compared to the cost of hiring a static caravan i still believe its money well spent, and hopefully the tyres will last me for another 5 years to come, by which time I will have probably retired from the hobby for good, with OH planning to give up Driving when he reaches the ripe old age of 75!

Is your caravan service place going to fit at least mid-range tyres & balance them? If not I suggest you get a mobile service like e-tyres to change them.

Hi Tentz, we have asked for a like for like swop, we have got Kyote commercial rated tyres on at the moment, and if they say they cannot supply them the same I will go elsewhere.

I enquired at Kwik fit last week but they no longer fit trailer tyres of any kind due to not having the tension/torque wrenches needed to reset them afterwards.

At least the dealer is an approved workshop and will have the correct gear to do the job, and plenty of time as were planning to leave the caravan with him for 5 days before going straight off on our first break of the year.

I too fell the misapprehension that the service would include the mover   so when I had a problem winding the bits onto the wheels just after a service I asked.  And the answer was 'No sir, it is not part of the service schedule'     so it went back in and was seen to - indeed the whole thing was replaced free of charge for some reason I asked the service manager what I had to do   he gave me a can of spray, showed me where to spray, told me to do twice a year and bingo all would be well    That was all they did in th workshop   at a cost of £15 two years ago - no it is £25      so I spray every time I take it out -  on the moving parts  and so far so good

nb do not use wd 40    use a silicone spray

each year i wrap a rag round the roller itself and give the mover half a can of WD 40 all over, catching the run off in a tin underneath.after 6 years the movers still look well apart from a tiny bit of paint flake on the outside.

I always do mine yearly.I Modified mine by fitting grease nipples to moving parts to ensure it always works freely.

Our first mover was still going strong after 10 years and the odd quirt of WD40 when we traded it in. We had a new one fitted to the new van which is getting the same treatment.
