hi,
ive been looking for a van for a few months now as ive sold my old one. today i have viewed a van which is just what we're after but it has water ingress from the offside front awning skirt rail (im sure i could reseal this). from the inside of the van in this area the floor is spongy (about 4" in x 12" long) but the underside of the floor from the outside is dry. im told to dry this area out holes will need to be drilled.
i think i should remove the affected top layer of the wood floor & use filler or resin to replace this. im sure dried wet wood goes brittle so i have replacement in mind.

please can anyone advise me on how to rectify the wet wood when its dry?
& any advice on resealing the skirt rail?

i do think this van would be a good investment at the right price & im sure i could do it myself with the right guidance.

the sellers are genuine (we've met a few) & didnt realise this until i showed them. apart from the water ingress, the van is sound with completely dry walls including in the area where the floor is spongy - this area is underneath the seating area of the front dinnette.
the van is a compass reflection 430/4 1993 (incase this is a problem with just these vans)

if you think you can fix it buy it ,as long as you dont open up a can of worms when you start of fix it good luck if you take it on

im looking into possibly doing the job myself if the price of the van is cheap enough (if not, walk away).
the "fix it members club" & the wizard has just the info i require!
ive been to chichester caravans today to get a "guesstimate" to use as a bargaining tool on the price.
my budget on a van is only £1,500 minus repair costs.

thanks for the advice

Having owned a damp van for ten years, soon as you fix one leak another appears, I would personally not go near this van. There are hundreds of cheap dry vans out there, unless you are happy to spend your days ass up head down
