Just had the caravan serviced for this year and there were a few problems with the Carver Cascade Rapide water heater. The non-return valve had become frost damaged so had to be replaced. The heater would initially not work on either gas or electric but traced the electric fault to the overheat trip. Heater working fine now on electric. The gas does not want to work at all. Pressing the On button on the controller gives a steady green light but there are no ignition (clicking) sounds. Any one any ideas if this could be related to the electric overheat in any way ??

The gas ignition is on 12 volt supply so no connection with your other problem. They are prone to failure of the gas module. To replace the module it comes complete with new gas burner.Look on caravan parts .co.uk £146

Hi Stepperdoc, if it is clicking the 12V electrics’ to the heater seems to be working, check that there is a supply of gas getting to the heater (gas shut off valve for water heater is open), if using Butane and ambient temperature is low(around Zero) Butane will not work. Possibly burner, damp or needs cleaned, gas can take 30seconds or longer to feed the heater when first connected, the green light illuminated and no clicking,is a bit confusing as that usually indicates that all is working as it should, but with no gas ignition I would have thought you would have the yellow and red illuminated, sorry not of more help, Garry is the man you need, he should be along shortly to help, as will the other members on here that have had a similar problem.

As said, not at all connected to the mains electric problem, each system being totally independent of each other.
What I suspect is the gas valve has stuck down and this has overloaded and blown the 1A fuse inside the burner module. The 12v goes to the switch first so that's why the green led is lit, however 12v can only go as far as the blown fuse so no action therefore no signal back from the module, hence no red fail light signal back to the switch.

In any event, I overhaul burner modules and have been since 1997, so no need to spend anywhere near £146.
More importantly, with so much experience I can happily give a full 12 month warranty, this means 'if' it goes wrong, I'll repair or replace it, that's more than you get anywhere else, even new! and at any price!!

Many thanks for the replies - very helpful. Gary, I am a qualified engineer (mechanical and electronics) so would be able to sort this out myself if I knew where the fuse was ?? - there is not much in the way of information in the heater manual. Any help would be gratefully received.

You will have to give me a ring, I won't give technical info such as this on an open forum, one never knows who might try and make use of it if I did?!

Hiya just been reading this post. I wonder if you can help with mine.
I have had a gas test and all is fine. When lighting heater it fires up and lights stay green but ive noticed that once up to temp it comes on for about 45secs then goes off for about 2 mins there are no error codes and works fine. Is this normal or is the module faulty

Cheers Paul

Would a gas-only Carver Cascade heater be worth anything for spares? I have one complete, was working perfectly until the centre rod broke spilling water everywhere. I have replaced it with an electric water heater.
