Some of the claims made on that ebay link make amusing reading, like you only need two bolts and flat nylon washers, the type Carver used? no they did not!!
Then don't bother with a fresh 'O' ring seal, save money and use blue silicone?
First, it's designed so when the ring is compressed it acts like a spring, but, second, have you seen the price of a small tube of that stuff? plus everyone I've had to sort out that's been bodged with it has been leaking!!

So yes there are ways of bodging it back together, but there is a correct way which will always last longer and not present you with further problem.

I'm not though sure I have a spare element left, some one on here had one off me last week and that might be the last one at this time?

But is your element itself gone or is it one of the thermostats failed?
Check this with a multimeter on ohms, you need 84-90ohms on a 3amp element, or around 64ohms for the later 5A Rapide element from 1997-on

No resistance through the two stats and if it's 99-2000 it maybe the relay at fault.
