Can anybody recommend a damp meter to buy to use in my 13year old motorhome. Last habitation check revealed readings of 30+, which we hope we have addressed but would like to check.

  • Readings between (0-15%) no cause for concern
  • Readings between (15-20%) dealer to make a note of these readings and re-check at next service.
  • Readings between (20-24%) possible early signs of ingress, look for tangible evidence or ask for a re-check.
  • Readings between (25-30%) moisture evident, remedial work required; may not need stripdown unless surface damage (staining, pimpling, and softness) is apparent. (There is a risk of wallboard deterioration due to retained moisture in the structure if resealed only.)
  • Reading (31 % and above) structural damage is occurring, deterioration inevitable. a full stripdown of the affected area is required.

We use the rapitest damp meter, the probes are on a lead rather than fixed to the unit, this means you can reach hard to get at places ie under cupboards etc here is a picture

Hi Thankyou for all your replies
I purchased a meter from clas Olsen last year and hopefully have largely eradicated the problem by siliconing the roof seams

I've just bought a cheapy off the internet - The plot is to calibrate it whilst repairing our vans nearside which presents every stage of damage caused by water ingress. Already it is proven to show where is dry and where is subject to ingress

Hi
Bought one from Clas Ohlsen about 2 years ago and use it to monitor the previous damp areas
In order to remove the damp we sealed in I put pinholes in the boarding Used a warm air blower This helped reduce the readings Then skimmed very lightly over the boarding with chalk which has revealed the holes
Keeping the damp out in a constant battle and the roof seams have to be inspected annually and use a small dehumidifier for the two months the van does not move ( December it is part of my outdoor Xmas light display

Bought a Stihl one from our local Arborist shop.

£15.50 it was.

Does the job we want at work checking the split logs we sell.

No used it on the van yet though.
