Help someone has put a hole in the big skylight at the front of our van, it needs replacing iv had a look and it looks straight forward,14 screws to remove take out old one and in with the new. Is it really this easy or would i need help?????? or do i take it and get charged a fortune by a realer to carry out repair.
Any advice gratefully received

If your good with your hands i dont see the point of paying someone,ive replaced 5 smaller ones through the years..

Yes you just have to take out the screws, undo the two internal telescopic support struts then remove the old skylight but you have to completely remove all the old seal around the aperture with methylated spirits or white spirit afterwards. You then need to clean away any residue otherwise the new seal won't adhere and could end up having leaks. When you re-apply the screws you need to do it in sequence ie. one corner then the opposite and work your way around and finally tighten using the same method so you get an even seal all round the aperture then inside the caravan re-fit the two telescopic support struts. Finally, clean away any excess seal with a hand made wooden chisel so you don't damage any of the paintwork or rubber then wipe clean with meths or white spirit to leave a clean finished job.

yes you can do it with a bit of forward planning.a lot of the preperation like cleaning off could be done from inside on a ladder once you have removed the old one.
