Hello

We are new to caravanning and have recently bought a 1991 Sprite Major Super.  On the advice of other owners, my husband made a thorough check of the caravan with a damp meter and checked the floor was sound etc. After bringing it home, we noticed a very small soft spot in the bathroom wall. Following a jetwash, my husband realised that water had got in via a tiny puncture hole on the outside of the van, making the patch bigger.  The hole is now sealed from the outside but we need to know the best way to repair the wall panel internally. He wonders if it is possible to simply cut out and replace the damaged area and if so, what tools to use and the best way to do it. Any advice would be much appreciated as we'd like to get it sorted as soon as possible.

Have a look here http://www.1carpc.co.uk/wcdr/ , have a good look round the site as there's plenty of links to things like wallboard , sealants etc .
I would say , if you can post some pictures of the area on here or email them to me .
You can cut wall board with a stanley knife and a straight edge , you should ensure that the area is completely dried before reboarding ( use a fan heater , but don't leave it unattended ) . Due to the age of the caravan , i would also try cutting a cross through the center of the damp patch and carefully peel away the wallboard covering , once you've peeled it out the way enough , cut the damp wood out ( dry the area ) and fit a new piece of wood , Now you can restick the peeled away covering , if your lucky , you'll end up with a faint cross and a wall with out a different covering on it ( as you would if you can't find the right wall board ) .

Thanks Wizard. Have all the materials now and have just been today to put the polystyrene in although had to trim down as could only get 3.6mm ply and the original is 3mm. Hopefully it will look ok when done, though I'm more concerned that the job is done even if it's not as pretty as it should be! As for the dreaded jet wash, I shan't be doing that again!
